- The interest to rebuild the Beetles was very big during the 1970's. The standard car was equipped with a weak motor and overall pretty poorly outfitted. The first thing to change was to switch the steering wheel to one in leather with a smaller diameter. After that an extractor system “Ormbo” was put in for better sound effects. Lastly new aluminum rims was put on the car, or in some cases Empi's hot Sprint Star Wheels. However there were people that choose to not stop there. In those cases new chairs, instrument boards and tuning of the motor was also done.
